House concurs on the constitutionally-questionable assault weapons ban, Rep. Bryan Sandlin issues statement:

On Wednesday, the House passed House Bill 1240 banning the sale, manufacture, and import of so-called assault weapons in Washington state.

15th District State Rep. Bryan Sandlin, issued the following statement regarding the passage of the bill:

“I voted against House Bill 1240 and I spoke during the floor debate to express my opposition.

“This bill doesn’t accomplish what was intended. It doesn’t fund education. It doesn’t solve crime. It doesn’t help the homeless.

“I believe that this bill will be overturned in court. Consequently, it has been a big waste of time.

“Knowing how much time we spent on this when it could have been spent on trying to solve more important issues is very frustrating. We should have spent that time on issues like fully funding education and helping to identify the true cause of violence, homelessness and lawlessness in our state.”

The 2023 legislative session is set to adjourn on Sunday, April 23.
