Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Many important issues came before the Legislature during the 2024 legislative session. I recently sent out my hardcopy newsletter providing an overview of the many high-profile issues we debated and considered. If you have not received it, please click here to access the electronic version. For a review of Republican priorities from the legislative session click here.

I hope you will take the time to review the newsletter and contact me with any questions, concerns or comments you may have regarding my legislative report or any other issue related to state government.

New legislative district boundaries

On March 15, a decision was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Robert Laznik that makes major changes to our legislative district boundaries.

Background: The Washington State Redistricting Commission drew up new legislative district boundaries in November 2021, which the commission does every ten years. However, a lawsuit was filed contending the final map violated the federal Voting Rights Act. It was targeting the 15th Legislative District in the Yakima Valley, but the court decision and new map makes significant changes.

According to one report, the new map moves more than 500,000 people in 13 districts, while the intervenors of the case offered a map with around 80,000 people moved in only three districts.

Court challenges continue, but for now the new boundaries will be in place for this year’s legislative elections. You can check out the new legislative district boundaries by clicking here.

Election-year restrictions

Due to election-year restrictions beginning on May 6, I will not be able to send you email updates until after the November general election results are certified. In fact, all of my legislative communications will be limited or restricted over the next six months in compliance with state ethics laws. The exception would be if a special session is called.

However, I am still your full-time state representative and can respond to constituents who contact me throughout the year. I invite you to email, write, or call. I look forward to hearing from you or seeing you around the district.

It is an honor to serve you!
